BIG BANYAN WINES
Rooted in Goa and Bangalore, Big Banyan's winemaking journey seamlessly combines tradition with modern innovation
Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Karnataka, just 2 kilometers from Bangalore's iconic 400-year-old Big Banyan tree, lies a hidden gem - Big Banyan Wines. This enchanting winery and vineyard, named after its majestic neighbor, offers a perfect blend of scenic beauty, fine-crafted wines, and enriching experiences.
As the ancient banyan tree, locally called Dodda Aalada Mara, spreads its roots across 3 acres in Ramohalli village, its namesake vineyard cultivates a new tradition, inviting both wine enthusiasts and weekend escapists to explore the burgeoning world of Indian viticulture.
A dream rooted in tradition and innovation

Big Banyan Wines is the brainchild of Mr. Paul P. John, the visionary behind John Distilleries (best known for its award-winning Indian whisky line-up). Determined to create wines of international standard with a distinctly Indian character, Big Banyan forged an international partnership, bringing together the best of Indian entrepreneurship and European winemaking expertise.

At the heart of this dream project is Lucio Matricardi, a renowned consultant winemaker with a Ph.D. in wine biotechnology from the University of California, Davis. Matricardi's vast experience, gained from working with Italian wine industry giants like Castello Banfi and Mezzacorona, infuses Big Banyan's wines with a distinctive touch. Working alongside this Italian virtuoso is resident winemaker Mahesh Awate, whose expertise in Indian viticulture ensures that each bottle captures the essence of the local terroir.
